Museum of Microcultures

Topic: Branding, Product Design
Medium: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

This project revolves around developing brand guidelines and product designs following the branding. Museum of Microcultures is a fictional future museum made for this project. The museum focuses on microculture (microbe + agriculture) kits & technologies. The design language of the museum emphasizes organic and scientific aspects with bringing up positive encouragement towards sustainability practices.
The logo of Museum of Microcultures (M.o.M.) is designed to reflect the name and the character of the museum. The round and interconnected appearance of the logo reflects the organic nature with its shapes inspired by cells and cell division process of microbes. The logo design is widely integrated as an identity signature of the brand and are reflected in the products and promotional materials of the museum.

Posters & Social Media Design

When it came to posters and social media posts, shape elements of the logo and color palettes were utilzied for delivering a consistent design product.  Layering photos of the algae worked effectively to convey the main topic of the museum’s exhibit. For the poster, green algae and red algae versions were made. Social media posts were designed to deliver the information of the poster in two consecutive images.

Merch Design

When it came to merch designs, using the brand guideline and keeping consistent design language were the crucial points. The major product was about delivering the idea of a futuristic algal lamp and the packaging design for it. Three lamp packages were designed as a series, each with a different color theme and algae species used. The design layout was done with consideration of how the print would appear when the box is folded up properly.

Alongside the algal lamp packaging, various other merch and products were designed; tickets, pins, t-shirt, stickers, and tote bags were desiged utilizing the design language of Museum of Microcultures brand guideline. The logo’s shape elements provided a strong brand language to the designs that adds character across the varying products.
